Facilities Management (FM) at Edge Hill is the largest support department at the University employing over 320 members of staff across 12 defined Service Areas. We provide hard, soft and commercial FM services to almost 12,000 full time equivalent (FTE) students and 2,000 FTE members of staff in addition to a significant number of visitors, partners and members of the public using the 160-acre campus.
Our award-winning campus boasts over 140,000m2 of built environment, including over 2500 residential bedrooms. Our multi-award-winning FM team is recognised within and beyond the higher education sector, for our customer-centric culture and our direct positive contribution to the core business – the attraction, recruitment and retention of students.
What we do
Accommodation
The Accommodation Team provide a wide range of support for students living in halls of residence and work closely with colleagues around the University. Accommodation are based in the Durning Centre and can be contacted on 01695 657555 or [email protected].
The teams main responsibilities and services include:
Managing room bookings within halls of residence for various different cohorts of students during the academic year
Managing room bookings within The Hollies
Managing the content of the halls of resident licence agreement
Managing and monitoring the income for on campus accommodation (working closely with the Hall Fees Team), including the process of terminations to contract and placing credits on the systems
Provide support and manage the administration of the accommodation database (for applications/room bookings/student data) on Mercury 4, including the design and implementation of the Accommodation Portal
To provide pastoral support to on campus students by signposting to the relevant service as appropriate

Our accessible Campus Support team are on hand to provide customer-centric services to all who choose to study at, work at, or visit Edge Hill University.
We are proud of the focused 24/7 support system we provide to our residential students to ensure that they feel comfortable and safe in their on-campus accommodation – our aim is to make them feel at home.
We provide a number of campus-based security and support functions which include:
Mobile security patrols
Traffic and parking management
Access control i.e. issue of keys, fobs and access cards to authorised persons
Monitoring of safety and security systems such as fire and intruder alarms, regular campus patrols
CCTV monitoring
Emergency Response including response to incidents, alarms, first aid provisions
Out of hours FM Helpdesk services
Provision of advice, support and guidance to all our customers
Catering
Catering
Food at Edge Hill is the in-house catering provider at Edge Hill University. When it comes to food and service delivery, we have a team of on-site chefs and catering throughout the year.
Catering Services have eight outlets, located throughout the Ormskirk campus. Catering is available from 7.30am through till 9pm in the evening (term time only) serving full English breakfasts to a dinner range into the evening. The Hub Coffee Shop is a Starbucks serving outlet and Roots Kitchen is accredited with the Gold award from the Soil Association.
Conference and events
The Edge Hill University Conferences team have years of experience of tailoring events individually for clients to ensure their success, delivering a first class service and meeting the ever-changing needs of the business conference world.
Whether you wish to hold a team meeting or formal dinner, we have the facilities to meet and exceed your expectations, all on one site.
Our key aim is to deliver an excellent service for the customer and their guests through logistical coordination and management of their Conference or Event.
On average the team organise over 270 events a year, so you can be confident in our ability.

Service Delivery Coordinators
The team also includes service delivery coordinators who act as key contact for the various University Faculties and carry out building audits assisting in maintaining a proactive approach to any issues in academic areas.
Switchboard and Main Reception
Main Reception is open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.
Based at the front entrance of the campus, Main Reception welcomes all guests and visitors to the University. Open days, visit days, special events or just fancy a look around the University – whatever the visit is for we are here at Main Reception to welcome you.
From general information to directions across campus the Main Reception team aim to assist everyone on campus – whether you are staff, a student or a casual visitor just passing through.
Post and print
FM Customer Experience team also manages The Post Room and the Print team. Staff and residential students can collect parcels and post:
The Facilities Management Finance team is located on the first floor of the Durning Centre. The Finance team are responsible for the raising of purchase orders and invoices. The team also manage The Hollies accommodation and stationery within the office.
The FM Finance team support Service Areas within Facilities Management and around the wider University including the Corporate Finance Department. This function is responsible for FM financial management information and reporting, monitoring compliance and the annual budget collation and production.
Grounds Maintenance
The Facilities Management Grounds team maintain the University award-winning grounds achieving Green Flag status for 13 successive years (Green Flag Award 2024).
We manage and maintain soft landscaping areas that helps provide a habitat for wildlife and support human health and recreation.
Maintenance Services
The Facilities Management Maintenance Services team preserve a functional and safe work environment for all staff, students and visitors to Edge Hill University.
The team undertake reactive and planned maintenance activities on the University estate, minimising business interruption and identifying risks that could impact delivery.
We aim to maintain standards and reputation, acting responsibly in respect of the environment and local community and contributing to a sustainable business.
FM Helpdesk
The Facilities Management team are the first point of contact for many campus related services here at Edge Hill.
We provide a high standard of customer service and offer front line support to all staff, students and visitors to the University. We deal with a range of issues including repairs, car parking, permits and sustainable travel including the Edge Link Bus Service.
FM Helpdesk are available Monday-Friday during term time: 8am-6pm to help you with all your campus related queries and can be contacted via email, phone or in person at the desk.
Operational risk and environment
Positioned within the University’s FM structure this team has an exciting blend of corporate and FM responsibilities. Continuing to work on a devolved model with a network of around 100 health and safety representatives and around 60 sustainability champions in faculties and departments around the institution, this team will drive the University’s health, safety, environment and operational risk agenda through effective engagement, promotion of best practice and monitoring processes to achieve a safe, sustainable and compliant campus.
Systems and Business Support
The Systems and Business Support team supports all FM related systems in collaboration with system owners/leads across the service, such as the CAFM (Computer-Aided Facilities Management) System and Mercury 4 (Accommodation system). The team manage individual enhancement projects (either internally or supplier-driven), support the rolling out of new functionality and build relationships with colleagues, suppliers, stakeholders and senior managers to ensure effective delivery of projects. The team additionally support users via training and the development of support materials/videos. The Systems and Business Support team’s work is underpinned by a focus on data, taking a data-driven approach when evaluating and recommending solutions.
The team further provide professional executive support to various colleagues in FM, including the Senior Leadership Team.
Site Services
Site Services is a professional, integrated support service, which aims to provide an excellent, high quality cleaning and portering service to all staff, students and visitors to Edge Hill University. Our ever growing team currently consists of over 135 housekeepers, porters and supervisors.
