Bijou Cinema
Andy Harrison and Lewis Simpson, who first met while studying at Edge Hill University, are the proud founders of Bijou Cinema, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company based in Southport. Their vision for the cinema came to life after they connected with Mike Lockwood at Southport MovieMakers, a local amateur film and video production club.
Mike had long dreamed of establishing a community cinema in Southport but struggled to find the right location until a former bar and restaurant building became available. With planning permission granted in 2017, Bijou Cinema officially opened its doors in October 2019. Andy’s friend, Phil Pierce, joined the team during the cinema’s first year.
Today, Bijou Cinema continues to thrive, earning accolades such as the “Best Hidden Gem” award at The Guide Liverpool’s 2023 Tourism Awards and “Entertainment Venue of the Year” at the 2024 Your Southport Stars Awards.
