The Faculty of Health, Social Care & Medicine is committed to producing excellent research to inform evidence based practice and the health and wellbeing of people locally, nationally and internationally.
Our Faculty has a wide range of expertise in health and social care and we work together with individuals, families, carers, charities, local authorities, businesses, funders (UK Research and Innovation and National Institute for Health and Care Research) and health and social care organisations. We deliver co-produced research that has a positive impact on the health and well-being of society and we actively share our findings and knowledge to create new ideas.
We are committed to delivering research that aligns with the NHS 10-year plan:
- reduces health inequalities and promotes social inclusion;
- focuses on the needs of neighbourhoods and underserved communities;
- improves established health and integrated care systems and develops a sustainable workforce;
- promotes health prevention and early diagnosis, especially for people at higher risk, to lessen the need for health and social care services;
- supports the health and well-being of children, young people and pregnant women;
- improves outcomes for people with long-term conditions, for example, mental health and musculoskeletal problems;
We collaborate across university departments through the Health Research Institute to meet current and future needs, for example by analysing large-scale health data; and building sustainable communities by maximising the strengths of individuals and groups (asset-based community development). Postgraduate research
We are committed to supporting healthcare professionals to develop their research potential through a range of postgraduate programmes. This includes support for NIHR internships and fellowships.
