This programme of work explores the pedagogical practices and intervention behaviours of sports coaches. This includes the investigation of coaches’ behaviours, such as questioning and feedback, as well as recommendations to aid athlete learning and performance. This project also considers applied uses of performance assessment technologies and the practice of video-based coaching, inclusive of how contextual demands, expectations, and pressures influence the design and delivery of these sessions.

This programme of work explores the pedagogical delivery of physical education in primary and secondary school environments. This includes the role of gendered habitus in constructing normalised bodily movements for both male and female teachers, those discursive regimes that impact on physical educators’ pedagogical uses of touch, inclusive practice and assessment of SEND pupils, as well as how external provision in physical education impacts on the selection and enactment of the curriculum.
