This programme of work explores the everyday social realities of work across sports coaching contexts. It includes an emphasis on how workers seek to effectively present themselves as professional and trustworthy practitioners, navigate their work and workplace relations in politically astute ways, manage their own and others’ emotions in accordance with socially learned feeling and display rules, as well as work individually and collectively as part of multi-disciplinary performance teams. This project examines various groups including sports coaches, athletes, support staff, and senior managers.

This project seeks to examine the dynamic, fluid, and complex practice of policy enactment in sports coaching environments. This includes how and in what ways those involved in networked, multi-dimensional, teams interpret policy in sporting environments, translate policy into contextualised practices and policy decisions, the impacts of these decisions on the intended outcomes of policy, as well as the effects on policy workers and recipients. This work examines a variety of policy topics in sporting contexts.
