Academic requirements
Choose programme that you are interested in below to find the entry requirements for the course. Specific entry requirements may differ for each programme, but the list below contains the general requirements and provides some guidance. More information on specific courses can be found in the course catalogue. Each application is assessed on its own merit.
China
Students who have successfully completed 12 years of education in China and attained the Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate (70%) or equivalent and plus a recognised international foundation programme.
We also accept the following qualifications:
– International Baccalaureate diploma with a minimum of 28-30 points depending on the course.
– A levels obtained in China
– We will also consider students who have successfully completed one year of university in China for direct entry to first-year undergraduate programmes.
Students are required to have completed a 4 year bachelor degree from a recognised university with a minimum average grade of 75% overall. 70% may be considered from ‘Project 211’ universities
Hong Kong
Minimum HKDSE score of level 3 in each core subject (except Chinese). 444 from elective subjects. Associate degrees from recognised universities will be considered.
Applicants who have completed a bachelor degree from a recognised Hong Kong university will be considered for admission onto a master’s degree, with either a 2:2 or 2:1 depending on the specific programme requirement.
India
Acceptable qualifications are:
– Higher Secondary School Certificates
– Indian School Certificate (ISC) /Intermediate Certificate / Higher School Certificate / Higher Secondary Certificate / All India Senior School Certificate / Pre-University course – awarded on completion of Standard XII (may be eligible for undergraduate study if awarded by the Metro Boards)
– Successful completion of Edge Hill IFP. The university also accepts students from a number of foundation courses offered elsewhere.
– Applicants with College Diplomas may qualify for entry to the 2nd year of our undergraduate degrees. Each application will be considered individually to assess the areas of study covered and the grades obtained.
Students who wish to transfer to the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree at Edge Hill University should provide:
– 1 copy of High School Certificate
– 1 copy of College or University transcript covering Semester 1 and 2
All applicants are required to have completed a bachelor degree with a minimum result of 50% and above:
– Bachelor degree in professional subjects (awarded from a central university, recognised state university or a centre of advanced studies)
– Bachelor of Arts or Science (Honours) awarded from a central university or a recognised state university
– Bachelor of Education (4 year integrated programme)
– Bachelor of Engineering / of Technology ( awarded from an institute of national importance, centre of advanced study, or an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) or the Indian Institute of Science)
– Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a law college approved by the India Bar Council
– Bachelor of Science (Engineering) / Engineering / Technology when awarded from a central university, a recognised state university, or a regional Engineering college
– Indian Institute of Engineers examinations A and B.
Japan
Koto Gakko Sotsugyo Shomei Sho (Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate): Minimum 5 subjects at grade 4 or above plus a recognised international foundation programme.
First year of bachelor’s degree (Gakushi) may grant entry to first year of UG in the UK with grade Good/70-79%/Grade B/良(Ryō)or above.
The university may also consider students with good passes in their vocational degree (Senmonshi) or an associate degree (Jun-Gakushi) Grade: Good/70-79%/Grade B/良(Ryō)
Bachelor’s degree (Gakushi) from a recognised Japanese university with a score of
– 65% for most courses requiring a 2:2
– 70% for most courses requiring a 2:1
South Korea
Applicants should have at least the High School Diploma, with a minimum GPA of 70% plus a recognised international foundation programme.
Students with a Junior College Diploma/ Associate Degree with relevant subjects may be considered for entry to the first year of a Bachelors degree. Grade: 75-79%/[2.5 out of 4.0]
One year of a Bachelor’s degree (Haksa) at a recognised university with a GPA of 75-79% [2.5 out of 4.0] may be considered for entry onto first year Undergraduate Programmes.
4-year Bachelor’s degree (Haksa) from a recognised South Korean university
– 75-79% / C+ / 2.5 for most courses requiring a 2:2
– 80-89% / B / 3.0 for most courses requiring a 2:1
Vietnam
For undergraduate courses, you should have at least the Upper Secondary School Graduation Diploma (5.0/10.0) (Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Phổ Thông Trung Học) plus an international foundation year or equivalent.
If you have already completed the first year of an undergraduate degree (Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Đại Học) at a Vietnamese university, you may be considered for entry to the first year of a Bachelors degree if you have studied relevant subjects.
Applicants who have completed a four year Bachelor degree (Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Đại Học) from a recognised Vietnamese university will be considered for admissions onto a master’s degree.
- 6.5 out of 10 needed for admission onto courses that require a 2:2
- 7.5 out of 10 for admission onto courses that require a 2:1
Malaysia
Applicants should have either:
STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) with a minimum of 3 grades at BBC/ BBB depending on degree,
or:
Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with a minimum BBC/BBB in 3 subjects (excluding languages)
Applicants who have completed a 2 year certificate or diploma at a recognised local college may be considered for admission into the second year of our undergraduate programmes.
Applications with an honours degree from a recognised university, with a grade equivalent to 2:2 or GPA of 2.5 will be considered;
Nigeria
Applicants should have a Secondary School Certificate (WAEC, West African Examinations Council or NECO, Nigerian Examinations Council) plus National Diploma, Nigerian Certificate of Education or successful completion of a recognised international foundation year.
We will also consider students who have successfully completed one year of university in Nigeria for direct entry to Year 1 undergraduate study.
Applicants who have completed a Bachelor degree from a recognised Nigerian university will be considered for admission onto a master’s degree. Minimum grade 2:2.
Ghana
Applicants should have SSCE/WASSCE plus a recognised international foundation year or equivalent.
Applicants who have completed the first year of a recognised university degree in Ghana may be considered for entry into Year 1 of an Undergraduate Programme.
Applicants who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree (with a minimum GPA of 2.5) from a recognised university will be considered.
Oman
Applicants should have the Secondary School Leaving Certificate plus a recognised international foundation year or equivalent.
Applicants with the Secondary School Leaving Certificate plus a 2 year diploma may be considered for entry onto Year 1.
Applicants who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree (with a minimum GPA of 2.5) from a recognised university will be considered.
New Zealand
Applicants should have at least National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 (60 credits at L3 and 20 at L2 with a score of Merit or Excellent in subjects relevant to the desired course of study).
Applicants who have a 4 year Bachelors Honours degree from a recognised university at 2:2 equivalent, will be considered for entry onto postgraduate programmes.
Singapore
Applicants should have a minimum of 3 Singapore Cambridge GCE A Levels. Applicants will need BBC/BBB depending on the course of study chosen.
The Singapore/ Cambridge GCE O Level is also accepted at grades A1 – C6 on a subject by subject basis.
Applicants who have completed a diploma from a Singaporean polytechnic, may be considered for entry on to first year of UG degree with good grades.
Students with a bachelors (honours) degree with a 2:2 minimum grade from a recognised Singaporean University will be considered for entry to postgraduate study.
USA
High School Diploma with a GPA of 2.75 or above
plus either
– four AP (Advanced Placement Programme) courses at grade 3 or above
– three AP courses at grade 4 or above
– First Year of University/College
– 3x SAT subject tests at 550 points – 1200/1600 in the SATR
– ACT (Overall average score 26)
If an application doesn’t quite meet the criteria above, it may be possible to join the fast track programme.
Degree awarded with minimum GPA of 2.75 from a recognised university
Canada
(table 22)
You must have graduated from a recognised Canadian university and have successfully completed at least four years of study. The exact grade requirement will depend upon the grading system used in your first degree.
For example we may ask for:
- GPA of 3.0/4.0
- GPA of 7 out of 9 (where the course requires a 2:1)
- GPA of 5 out of 9 (where the course requires a 2:2)
- A minimum GPA of 7 out of 12
- A minimum GPA of 8 out of 13
- A minimum Grade B
- A minimum grade average of 70%
Brazil
Applicants should have achieved the Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio at grade 6 plus a recognised international foundation programme or equivalent.
Applicants who have good grades in the Título de Técnico may be considered for entry to appropriate undergraduate programmes.
Applicants with Título de Bacharel or Título de Licenciado GPA 7/10 – 4 years minimum from a recognised Brazilian university.
Mexico
Applicants should have passed the Bachillarato with a GPA of 7.5 or equivalent plus a recognised international foundation programme
Applicants who have completed a four year Bachelor degree (Licenciatura) from a recognised Mexican university will be considered for admissions onto a master’s degree.
- For courses that require a 2:2 students must achieve 7.5 out of 10
- For course that require a 2:1 students must achieve 8.0 out of 10
