Honest Mistakes

‘Honest Mistakes’ is a debut stage play by Eoin Malone, winner of the Dame Janet Suzman Prize for Playwriting 2023/24.

The story follows Callum and Molly, lifelong best friends for whom questions of sex and self-esteem loom large as they do for all their teen-aged peers. The two friends find themselves at the first major juncture of their lives when Molly reveals her plans to emigrate to Australia, and both must confront the things they have left unsaid now that they are faced with the finality of “goodbye”.

Eoin Malone graduated from Edge Hill University with a BA in English Literature with Creative Writing in 2022, followed by an MA in Creative Writing in 2023.

His short story, ‘The Gods of Little Things’, was featured on BBC Radio 4’s Short Works: New Frequencies Season 2 in September 2022. In April 2024, Eoin was announced as the winner of the Dame Janet Suzman Prize for Playwriting. Honest Mistakes was chosen to receive the prize by the actor herself.

The performance is a staged adaptation produced by Daniel Vernon & Joseph Roberts from Tenderfoot Theatre as part of the Playwriting Prize.
