The School of Nursing and Midwifery Symposium

The new Nursing and Midwifery Standards state the necessity for nurses to be fully conversant with evidence based practice (NMC, 2018). The new standards also says that nurses and midwives need to be using best evidence to inform their practice. Therefore, we have co-designed a range of 40 minute-bring your lunch symposia for our nursing and midwifery programme students over the next academic session 2024/25.
Symposia, what is it?
The Symposia sessions have been developed to explore contemporary field/subject areas which will offer added value to our timetabled teaching sessions. These sessions are voluntary but will enhance you knowledge of field/subject specific contemporary issues. These will be delivered by experts in the field, involving a range of internal and external speakers.
The symposia objectives
- Offering extra field/subject specific curricula activity for nurses and relevant subject areas for midwifery students, Nurse/Paramedic and Nurse/Social Work students (although all these symposia events apply to all fields of Nursing, Midwifery, Nurse Paramedic and Nurse/Social Work students).
- Providing a forum for students and staff to debate contemporaneous issues in Nursing, Midwifery, Nurse Paramedic and Nursing/SW practice.
- Facilitating and encouraging students to read contemporary research in their chosen professions
- Increasing students understanding of the Evidence Based Practice (EBP)
- Connecting Professors/Readers and staff with Significant Responsibility for Research (SRRs) to Nursing and Midwifery programmes
- Preparing Edge Hill University Nursing & Midwifery students to be consumers of research
Attending these sessions will also enhance your knowledge & skills to be more successful at passing assignments
These symposia sessions will be voluntary for all Nursing and Midwifery programmes and for all years. The sessions will be field/subject specific. But, students can attend any sessions from other fields/subject areas, and we would encourage this as Nursing and Midwifery are holistic professions and are not bounded by fields/themes/subject areas.
We prefer you to attend face-to-face, but we will also deliver them online via MS Teams (accessed via the link as per each timetabled session)
So come along and bring your lunch to the Lunch Time School of Nursing and Midwifery Symposia.
