Doctors who wish to expand their clinical expertise and experience will spend a year working in hospitals in India and the next two years in NHS hospitals while studying a specialist Masters at Edge Hill.
The Apollo International Clinical Fellowship Programme (ICFP) – launched by Apollo Education UK in collaboration with Edge Hill University (EHU), Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Teaching Hospital (WWL) and Global Training and Education Centre (GTEC) – will enable doctors to ‘earn as they learn’.
Clare Austin, Dean of the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine at Edge Hill University, said:
“This is an important opportunity for our Master of Surgery and Master of Medicine programmes to support the recruitment and training of international doctors as part of our long-standing ‘earn, learn, excel and return’ scheme.”
The three-year programme, launched as part of Apollo’s Global Workforce Development initiative, offers speciality pathways to doctors who have completed their medical degree in India.
They will gain three years clinical experience, with mentorship from senior doctors at Apollo Hospitals in India before completing their learning within the NHS, while studying for a Master of Surgery or Master of Medicine degree at Edge Hill.
Following their time in the UK they will be encouraged to return home to boost the Indian healthcare system.

The Apollo ICFP is the latest initiative under the Apollo Knowledge umbrella, the Apollo Group’s skilling, training, and education and resourcing arm.
