What is an outstanding student experience? High quality teaching. Support at every step. Careers advice that expands your opportunities. And feeling part of a community where you belong.
University is about getting a degree that leads to your chosen career. But it’s also more than that. It’s about you as a person. It’s your journey and your personal experiences as a student. And when you’re choosing the right university for you, you want to feel confident you’re going to have the best experience.
That’s why we’re so proud Edge Hill University has been awarded the highest possible rating of gold for providing an outstanding student experience, and silver overall in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). Every aspect of Edge Hill’s assessment was rated ‘outstanding’ or ‘very high quality’. This means our efforts both inside and outside the classroom are acknowledged as creating a positive learning environment for our students. This TEF award is about recognising excellence in areas such as teaching, learning, support and student outcomes. Which helps give you a way to choose a university that offers a high-quality experience. They analyse national data and use evidence from staff and students to decide on their ratings which means they’re looking at the big picture and listening to students themselves.
What do our students say?
Achieving this TEF rating is important to us, as it’s recognition of what we do well. The most important thing though, is how it impacts our students. Which is why we want you to read about their experiences in their own words.
Academic support
“Edge Hill has a lot of different ways that students can access support. I know where I can access support for both academic and pastoral issues. And regular check-ins with my Personal Tutor have helped me feel comfortable within my studies and the university as a whole.”
Sara, second-year student
An optimised learning experience
“There’s plenty of teaching to support your academic journey, in addition to independent learning. We’re given access to facilities that utilise the latest technologies and integrate simulation into our learning. I think it has greatly enhanced and optimised my learning experience.”
Glen, third-year student
Mental health and wellbeing
“Edge Hill has supported me with health and wellbeing throughout my studies. It’s so easy to access support. All you need to do is send an email to the dedicated team and request to book an appointment. My Personal Tutor has also been a great help to me when I’ve struggled and they’ve always been there when I’ve needed a little bit of extra guidance.”
Sophie, second-year student
Getting career-ready
“My degree focused a lot on employment, so I learned skills like communication, presentation and writing – which I think are just as important as the technical side of the course. This helped me to approach scenarios and tackle problems in my graduate job. The Department also regularly hosted guest speakers from industry, who talked to us about the working environment and expectations in their own organisations.”
Jay, Edge Hill graduate
A place to belong
“There’s plenty of events held by both the Student Life Team and the Student Union. There’s also plenty of societies too and joining a society is a great way to explore your passions. I joined the Sign Language Society, which has helped me to make friends and feel part of a group. And it’s a great way to spend my time in between my studies.”
James, second-year student
