Appointment of Interim Vice-Chancellor

December 13, 2024

The Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Lynda Brady as Edge Hill University’s Interim Vice-Chancellor, following the retirement of Dr John Cater, CBE, DL at the end of January 2025. Lynda will take up the Interim VC role on 1st February 2025.

Lynda has been Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) and University Secretary at Edge Hill since March 2014. Prior to joining Edge Hill, Lynda held senior roles at the Open University, including as Regional Director for the North West, leading the academic, professional services and associate tutors based in the region, to support the OU’s 26,000 students. Prior to that, Lynda spent 7 years as an academic at Liverpool John Moores University.

Clive Elliott, Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors at Edge Hill University, who led the Interim recruitment process and chaired the interview panel, says:

“After a thorough internal recruitment process, I’m pleased to offer Lynda Brady the Interim Vice-Chancellor position.  Her breadth of experience, knowledge of Edge Hill, and understanding of the challenges and opportunities over the coming months means that she is well-suited to lead the University and to sustain its core values pending the appointment of the permanent Vice-Chancellor.”

Lynda says:

“I am delighted to have been appointed as the Interim Vice-Chancellor of Edge Hill University.  It is a privilege to play a part in a University which delivers outstanding teaching and research with a strong commitment to delivering a gold-rated student experience on a truly stunning campus. I’m looking forward to leading the University, working alongside my many excellent colleagues, the Board of Governors, our students partners and stakeholders to further build on John Cater’s outstanding legacy.

I am committed to maintaining the culture, values and ethos of the University and its clear sense of purpose and inclusivity.  Although the HE environment is challenging, this is a University which must continue to look forward as we work together to provide transformational educational opportunities for future generations and support the growth and prosperity of the wider region and beyond.”

The process of appointing a permanent Vice-Chancellor is ongoing with final interviews being held on 10-11th February 2025. A further announcement will be made once an appointment is confirmed.
