There’s plenty to get involved in at Edge Hill, as well as in neighbouring Ormskirk and the North West. Here are some of our students’ top things to do off campus.

If you love the outdoors…

  1. Martin Mere – Ormskirk
    Take in the scenery, go on a walk and feed wild birds at Martin Mere. It’s a great day out with friends, or just to experience a day in nature.
  2. Natterjack Alpacas – Ormskirk
    If you fancy something different, you can walk Alpacas on a 90 minute private trek – where you’re even matched up with your own Alpaca.
  3. Crosby Beach – Liverpool
    Head to the picturesque beach to relax and enjoy the coastline, with plenty of cafés and bars and even a lakeside activity centre to enjoy water sports.

If you love live events…

  1. Empire Theatre – Liverpool
    From musicals to dance, and comedy to drama, the theatre hosts a varied programme and is one of the city’s most iconic venues
  2. Ormskirk Civic Hall – Ormskirk
    This community venue offers a varied programme of cultural, artistic and leisure activities; from tribute music acts to charity nights and pantomimes.
  3. Hot Water Comedy Club – Liverpool/Manchester
    Catch new acts and famous faces at venues across Liverpool & Manchester at the UK’s Biggest Comedy Club.

If you’re a foodie…

  1. Ormskirk Food and Drink Market
    Visit six delicious food traders, enjoy live music, immersive games and a full bar at this buzzing social venue.
  2. Nordico Lounge – Ormskirk
    A vibrant community hub all day and night, this is the perfect place to enjoy creative food and drinks, made with delicious fresh ingredients.
  3. McDonald’s, Greggs and Domino’s – Ormskirk
    While there are plenty of new places to choose from, everyone’s favourite comfort foods such as McDonald’s, Greggs and Domino’s are right on your doorstep.

If you fancy a night out…

  1. Lime Tyger – Ormskirk
    Enjoy a laid-back atmosphere, funk, soul, hip-hop and reggae inspired tunes and a vast range of cocktails.
  2. Alpine – Ormskirk
    This is the biggest nightclub in Ormskirk with plenty of student socials, events and drink offers 6 days a week.
  3. Kas Social – Ormskirk
    This integrated bottleshop & taproom serves a range of the best indie beers & ciders, award winning wines and local artisan spirits.

If you’re looking for activities…

  1. Kartworld – Burscough
    Experience the thrill of high speed karting on over 650 metres of fast track at Kartworld. Designed by racers and technicians from the British Touring Car Championship, the track is great for fun racing and for the more serious karter.
  2. UK Paintball – Ormskirk
    The Ormskirk woodland provides an ideal setting for paintball, with lots of natural obstacles which enhance the experience.
  3. Farmageddon – Ormskirk
    A fun and exciting way to bond with new friends. Farmaggedon is officially one of the best scare attractions in the UK with multiaward-winning scare mazes and attractions.

If you’re into fitness and wellbeing…

  1. Westhead Village Hall – Ormskirk
    This community hall hosts regular yoga classes, meditation, wellbeing retreats and more. There are lots of groups and events to get involved in to meet people in the local community.
  2. Volt Gym – Burscough
    Renowned for powerlifting, this state-of the art local gym is an Official Hammer Strength training facility with over 20 pieces of plate loaded kit.
  3. Ruff Wood Nature Reserve – Ormskirk
    Be at one with nature in this haven for wildlife, ideal for walking to keep fit and taking some time out of your busy life.

If you love sports…

  1. Aintree Racecourse – Aintree
    Just a short train journey away, Aintree Racecourse hosts world famous race days and also plenty of events and live music throughout the year.
  2. Old Post Office – Ormskirk
    With 100” screens on every wall, every seat has the perfect view for sports fans. They show all sports like football, cricket, tennis, boxing and more.
  3. Stadium tours – Liverpool
    Head to Anfield or Everton Stadium to watch Premier League matches and soak in the atmosphere. Or explore these famous grounds with regular guided stadium tours with plenty of photo opportunities.

There’s plenty to do and see all within easy reach of campus. We’re in the heart of Lancashire, and just a short train journey to Merseyside so you’ll never be stuck for something to do.
