Millie Prescott

I was first interested in studying Law because I was very intrigued by the legal sector. Law impacts on all areas of our lives even those you may not suspect. Ultimately the law is all encompassing and omnipresent, from its involvement with crowds in football to purchasing a property.

Edge Hill is a very well-regarded and respected university. Since I live very close to Edge Hill, I have watched it develop over the years. During primary school I even competed in an athletics competition on the old running track which is now the Catalyst building. From a young age I knew that Edge Hill was and is the place for me.

The top 3 skills I have developed during my degree are:

• Perseverance. I have continuously achieved my goals and ambitions even when at times it felt impossible.
• Leadership. As a result of my teamwork and leadership skills I had the honour of being Head Negotiation Officer for the Student Law Society.
• Self-belief. I now have confidence in my own abilities and no longer attribute my success to luck or external factors. I have recently received an Excellence Scholarship from Edge Hill which I know is a result of my hard work and success.

In my opinion self-belief is one of the most important skills that I have developed during my degree. If you believe in yourself the world becomes your oyster.

I’m so grateful for all the opportunities Edge Hill has provided. I am proud of my many achievements whilst studying here such as, competing in the final of the Edge Hill internal negotiation competition. I was also selected as the only first year undergraduate for the CEDR’s Regional Negotiation Competition. Along with my motivation to help others I attended the CEDR’s regional negotiation competition the year after I competed but that time as a coach! I have also been appointed as the President of the Edge Hill Student Law Society.

The most memorable moment of my degree so far is when I secured a training contract at Brabners to become a trainee solicitor. But equally, when I was appointed as the President of the Edge Hill Student Law Society, and most recently receiving an Excellence Scholarship. All such moments would not have been possible without Edge Hill and the opportunities provided.

The level of expertise, from the very well-respected lecturers and staff members is exceptional. Edge Hill not only has a passion to help students but also to make an impact in the field of law, which is very inspiring.

The best thing about Edge Hill University is the support I have received to succeed in all areas of life, as well as Edge Hill’s inclusive community. There are lots of extracurricular opportunities provided. For example Edge Hill provided an exclusive insight day at Brabners, the firm I have now secured a training contract with.

Aside from law I have a passion for fitness therefore my favourite place, along with many other places on the exceptional campus, would be the gym and the sport facilities. Edge Hill is well respected for such facilities and it helps many students, like myself, to relax and destress outside of their studies.

I have recently secured a training contract with one of the leading law firms in the UK, Brabners. After graduation I will undertake the solicitors qualifying exam in 2025, then start as a trainee solicitor at Brabners in September 2026.

Even though at times certain goals may feel impossible and your hard work seems to outweigh the rewards, you will achieve what you put in. This is evidently shown through my success as an excellence scholar, president of the Edge Hill Student Law Society and future trainee at Brabners.

I believe I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today without the support from Edge Hill. I couldn’t have asked for more from the Edge Hill Careers Team with my application for the training contract at Brabners, as well as the daily support from my lecturers that has helped me remain motivated so far in my degree.
