Rosie Bernard
BA (Hons) Creative Writing

All I ever wanted was to find people who wanted to write stories as I did. I remember sitting in the library with friends. We were all writing our own things, and the air felt electric with creativity.
I love writing. I wanted to be in an environment with like-minded people where writing stories would be actively encouraged.
A friend who came here had nothing but high praise for Edge Hill, I didn’t even go to an open day. I looked at the course spec and liked what I saw. Then I just applied for EHU as my top choice, and accepted without considering anywhere else.

While there are rules to everything, you can break the mould and try new things. Experiment with things you never thought you could write. With this course creativity is encouraged.
I love being able to dedicate time to writing and seeing the progress of the quality of my writing. The course has taught me how to accept criticism, to be more open-minded, and developed my proofreading skills.
The campus is so beautiful. When I lived in Uni accommodation, I’d go on walks around campus to clear my head. It always made me feel so much better. My favourite spot is the green area behind the Red Bar in the Arts Centre.
I’d love to keep writing stories after graduating. My dream is to have a book in every genre.
I’ve felt supported throughout my degree. There was a time when I was struggling and falling behind. One message to my personal tutor and things were put in place to help me get on top of everything again.
Do it! Embrace every part of it and let your mind go wild. That’s my advice to other prospective creative writing students.
