Takedown procedure for Figshare & Pure

You might have reason to believe that something should be removed from the public record. For example, if it infringes your copyright, is an example of plagiarism or other research misconduct, poses a legal or security risk. If research data, please see the Research Data Management Policy for possible grounds for takedown.

This procedure applies only to information held in Figshare and Pure. For information held on other webpages or online services, please contact the relevant department for that page.

How to request removal of an item

If you have a question or complaint about content on our research repositories, please provide:

  • Your contact details
  • Sufficient information to allow us to identify the item, including its URL
  • The nature of the query or complaint, and your reason for submitting it
  • If your query relates to copyright or similar, confirmation that you are the rights holder or affected subject, or otherwise authorised to act on their behalf in this matter.

What happens next?

  • We will acknowledge receipt.
  • Where the grounds appear reasonable, the relevant team at Edge Hill may temporarily withdraw the record from public view, pending further investigation.
  • If relevant, and where possible, the depositor will be notified and they will be encouraged to resolve the issue with you.
  • If you are unable to reach a solution with the depositor, a final decision will be made by the relevant team’s management at Edge Hill.

There are 3 resolutions:

  1. The record is reinstated without changes.
  2. The record is reinstated with changes, for example:
    • A copyright violation may have been corrected.
    • The full text files on the record may be permanently removed from public view on the repository, in which case a metadata record will remain with a note explaining the reasons for removal.
  3. In very rare circumstances, the entire metadata record may be permanently removed from public view on the repository.

Leaving Edge Hill?

If you leave Edge Hill, your Pure public profile will be hidden but the records about your research will still be discoverable. These will only be removed if there is a valid takedown request.

Records in Figshare remain open, accessible and discoverable.

Some records from Pure and Figshare can be exported to your ORCID account. You should export your information before you leave and lose access.
