The team assess eligibility for alumni fee remission, raise invoices for tuition fees and can discuss payment plans for home students. They can help with some funding queries relating to Student Finance/Island Governments or ELCAS and make payment of DfE teaching bursaries and non application based awards.

Fees
Applicants may view course and module fees from the university’s website and can expect to receive confirmation of their fee, and view arrangements for payment, during the offer stage and enrolment. For postgraduate students, the fee confirmed at offer stage will be the gross annual fee. Any possible fee remission will be assessed and confirmed during enrolment. Students who are applying for Recognition of Prior Learning should contact the Tuition Fees team for advice before applying for RPL, it may have a significant impact on finances.
UK tuition fees (‘home’ residency status)
On 20th October 2025, the Secretary of State/UK Government announced a rise in higher education tuition fees for all Higher Education providers. This is in line with forecast inflation for all UK (Home) and Islands undergraduate and postgraduate initial teacher training (ITT) courses leading to Qualified
Teacher Status and comes into effect from Friday 1 August 2026.
This means for all full time students studying in academic year 2026/27, the tuition fee will rise from £9,535 to £9,790 per year, an increase of £255. This uplift meets with our Tuition Fee Regulations and is approved by the Office for Students.
This change affects:
New and current undergraduate students, including Foundation Years, regardless of status
Students who deferred their place from 2025/26 academic year to 2026/27
Students who suspended study during 2025/26 academic year to return 2026/27
Current undergraduate students on a placement or study abroad year
Postgraduate Initial Teacher Training (ITT) students (e.g. PGCE, PGDIT)
Masters level Pre-Registration Nursing programmes

International fee
The international fee will apply for EU students commencing programmes after academic session 2022/23, with the exception of Irish Nationals or those who can evidence settled status.
Referred to Study for Honours (QSFH)
Students Referred to Study for Honours (QSFH) will have a tuition fee to pay calculated at the undergraduate standard part time credit price (as noted above) for all registered module credits. This will be charged at the rate for the most recent academic session. There is no entitlement to additional external student funding. An invoice will be issued immediately following registration and students will be advised on the payment deadline date. All tuition fees must be paid in full for attendance at graduation and issue of certification.
Transferred to Part Time (TPT)
Students Transferred to Part Time(TPT) for reassessment purposes will have a tuition fee to pay calculated at the undergraduate part time standard credit price (as noted above) for all registered module credits, charged at the fee rate for the academic year of study. An invoice will be issued immediately following registration and students will be advised on payment dates. Subject to previous study, you may qualify for student funding in the form of a maintenance loan and tuition fee loan. Despite completing less than 120 credits, Student Finance regard Transferred to Part Time as a full study year and include it as part of your overall funding entitlement. Students who don’t qualify for funding will be required to self-fund their study and make payment in accordance with the University’s scheduled payment dates.
The University may administer a small inflationary rise in tuition fees, in line with Government policy, in subsequent academic years as you progress through your course.
Bursaries
If you are studying on a teaching or health and social work programme, you may be eligible for a bursary. Bursary awards and criteria can change each academic year and are subject to availability as confirmed by DfE and DHSC.
Teaching bursaries
Qualifying for a teaching bursary from the Department for Education (DfE) is straightforward. For PGCE/ ITT students, there is no formal application, the university will award the bursary if you meet the criteria. The faculty will assess the eligibility of students on FE ITE courses and apply on their behalf.
DfE bursaries are paid in addition to and do not impact on Student Finance maintenance loans. Funding amounts along with eligibility criteria for subject areas can be found on the links below:
Students will be notified prior to the course start via their applicant’s personal email, to confirm bursary entitlement and scheduled payment dates. Students will be required to agree to our Terms and Conditions defined by the DfE and the university and returned to [email protected].
Qualifying students will be asked to provide their nominated UK bank account details, their National Insurance Number. Payment will only be made once you have met all of the conditions of entry, are fully registered on course, returned the bank / T&C forms and engagement has been verified at the start of each month by your tutor.
Students may only receive one Initial Teacher Training bursary within the academic year. Should you meet the eligibility criteria for more than one bursary, Department for Education guidelines state that only the higher award may be received.
2025/2026 trainees
For academic year 2025/2026 trainees who are starting courses in Physics will not need to be eligible for Student Finance to be eligible for the ITT bursary. All other trainees are only eligible for a bursary or scholarship if the trainee meets one or more of the definitions for being an ‘eligible’ student to receive grants and loans towards tuition fees or living costs, as set out in The Education (Student Support) Regulations 2011 (part 2 – eligible students). In addition, applicants may be eligible for a PGCE bursary if they hold a PhD, Master’s, first, 2:1 or 2:2 degree qualification, and have ‘home’ residency status and do not already hold QTS status.
Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics and Physics Scholarships
Students in receipt of a Math’s or Computing Scholarship.
Students in receipt of a Scholarship must provide confirmation from the relevant body listed below and send this to [email protected].
Undergraduate bursaries are only available to students in their final year of BSc (Hons) Secondary Mathematics with QTS. There is no application process. Qualifying students will receive email communication requesting bank details and agreement to T&Cs immediately following enrolment.
Undergraduate veteran teaching bursary
A training bursary worth £40,000 is available to undergraduate veterans who have left full-time employment no more than 5 years before the start of their course. Veterans who are enrolled onto a course that leads to QTS in secondary mathematics which commences in September 2025 are eligible to receive the bursary. Veterans are required to provide evidence of their full-time employment from the:
British Army
Royal Air Force
Royal Navy
The bursary is payable in equal instalments in the final two years of their course (£20,000 per year). Trainees cannot receive an undergraduate veteran teaching bursary and an undergraduate bursary.
Payment
The University will confirm engagement with the faculty prior to initiating any payment. For students eligible to receive a DfE bursary, payment will be made monthly into the bank account of your choice on set dates, to be notified by the University in your email communication.
To be eligible for an NHS social work bursary, you need to meet the specific criteria outlined on the social work bursaries page of the NHSBSA website. This bursary is non-repayable and contributes to your living expenses during your period of study.
The University is awarded a limited number of bursaries for undergraduate and postgraduate study and is required to nominate students in advance of the academic year following set criteria which can be found here (Social Work Bursaries – Edge Hill University). Not all students will be entitled to a capped place but may still put an application in for a travel grant.
Please note, if you are nominated for a postgraduate Social Work Bursary, you will not be eligible to receive a Postgraduate Loan and will also not qualify for alumni fee remission.
Students who are not nominated (or who wouldn’t qualify) for a Social Work Bursary, may make an application to Student Finance for a postgraduate Masters loan.
